Early this morning, January 26, a four-story building in Lagos’ well-known Balogun market caught fire, destroying products worth millions of naira.
At around 12.45 in the morning, the fire is said to have originated from one of the stores in the textile and shoe building on Gbajumo. According to reports, it took three hours for firefighters from the Federal and State Services to put out the fire.
While dampening was taking place, the fire restarted at 6am, and emergency personnel were still battling it at around 9:40 am.
The precise origin of the fire could not be determined right away. NEMA Ibrahim Farinloye, the South West Coordinator for the National Emergency Management Agency, stated that no fatalities have been reported.
He declared, “At this time, the fire is completely under control. Without spreading to adjacent buildings, it was contained.
“No injuries or fatalities have been reported; however, access to the fire’s source is still very difficult.”
