Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential candidate, has come under fire over a tweet on his social media account from the former minister of education, Oby Ezekwesili.
Atiku Abubakar’s social media account stated in a post on Monday that the former vice president was in charge of Nigeria’s economic management team under Olusegun Obasanjo.
The article claims that Atiku revealed this while speaking to the Nigeria Economic Summit Group on Monday in Lagos (NESG).
The post read: “As head of the economic management team while I was Vice President, I was instrumental in designing a private sector revival strategy and advocated for the opening of the economy for private sector investments in several sectors. And we made tremendous progress. #AtikuAtNESG.”
Reacting to the claim, Oby Ezekwesili, who was a Minister during the administration, called on Atiku to stop his social media handlers from misleading the public.
She wrote: “Dear former Vice President Atiku, please ask the handlers of your @Twitter account to stop misleading the public. You were never the Head of the Economic Management Team.
“This absurd Lie does you no good at all. Please ask your Team to stop it. Happy New Year. Wish you well.”
