Less than six days before the presidential elections, the former governorship candidate for the Labour Party (LP) in Kano has switched parties to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Bashir Ishaq Bashir, a former Labour Party candidate for governor in Kano, not only left the party but also founded a movement called “Game Changers for Asiwaju/Shettima 2023.”
In addition, Bashir publicly criticized Obi and vowed his allegiance to Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the APC’s presidential candidate.
It was alleged that Bashir organized his followers to skip Obi’s presidential campaign rally on January 22 at the Kano Pillars stadium before he formally declared his departure from the Labour Party.
While announcing his official resignation from the Labour Party, Bashir said he is moving to the APC with every other LP’s political candidate.
“We shall return to the fold of the All Progressives Congress, and I wish to inform you that we have just finished our Steering Committee meeting where the feedback from our constituencies was deliberated upon”, he said on Sunday.
“The following decisions were made: As a coalition of Labour Party (LP) Gubernatorial, Senatorial, and House of Representatives, House of Assembly Candidates, Chairman and Members of the Presidential Campaign Council, Members of the Gubernatorial Campaign Council, and Zonal and State Coordinators we have decided to endorse the candidature of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“We have also resolved to leverage our existing political structures to work on the mass mobilization of voters and swinging of votes to ensure his (Tinubu’s) emergence as the president of the federal republic of Nigeria in the 2023 presidential election.
“We shall be known as Game Changers for Asiwaju/Shettima 2023. Our slogan is “Sabon Lale”…Swinging the Votes. We shall return to the fold of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Party.”
