Massive protests over the scarcity of naira in Abeokuta result in the destruction of banks.

The shortage of newly redesigned Naira notes and the state’s fuel scarcity have caused havoc in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State.

Thisweekng learned that protesters started destroying banks on Tuesday as a result of complaints about the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) new note policy and the country’s fuel shortage.

Residents fled for safety as irate demonstrators closed several highways for hours while moving about with weapons.

In addition to blocking busy streets with sticks, wood, and other potentially hazardous weapons, the protesters were also ripping down and burning public buildings.

Security personnel eventually confronted some of the protesters who were trashing property in an effort to bring the situation back to normal.
