Unconfirmed reports flying around the social media are that the governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, has denied being a member of Governor Wike’s G5.
Recall that the G5 Governors have been engaged in a political battle with the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, over control of the party. As a result, they refused to openly support him for the forthcoming presidential election.
The G5 or the Integrity Group, the members include their host, Wike (Rivers), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Samuel Ortom (Benue), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), and Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia).
Speculation has also emerged that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State is working for the party’s flagbearer, Atiku Abubakar and the state governor, Okezie Ikpeazu might dump the G5 group.
Ikpeazu has been quoted to say that he has no affiliation with the organization and is unsure of the reasoning behind the persistent labeling.
In series of tweets, some handles have come out to carry the news of his denial of any involvement with the group
Below are some tweets from PDP Vanguard and others:
