Mahmood Yakubu, the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), discussed the use of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System on Saturday (BVAS).
Yakubu promised Nigerians at a meeting on Saturday that the BVAS will be utilized in the elections for governor and state legislature.
At an ongoing gathering of all Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) at the INEC headquarters in Abuja, Yakubu provided the guarantee.
In order to prevent the malfunctions experienced during the elections last Saturday, he claimed that the commission is improving the devices.
The aim of the meeting was not disclosed to newsmen, however, journalists were invited to cover the opening.
This meeting is holding exactly one week after the presidential and National Assembly elections, and one week before the governorship and state assembly elections.
The INEC Chairman in his opening remark noted that the meeting is to review performances at the last week’s elections, adding that there are lessons to be learnt from last week’s elections, especially as it relates to logistics management.
He urged the RECs to work harder to ensure that the governorship elections do not experience the same glitches recorded with the last elections while calling for disciplining of staff who err.
