Aviation workers start a strike, flights grounded and passengers are left stranded at the Lagos airport.

On Monday morning, employees of the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company Plc (NAHCO) began a strike, which grounded international aircraft at Lagos’ Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja.
According to thisweekng, the reason for the warning strike is pay increases, and the employees have sworn not to come back to work until the problem is resolved.

Several travellers were spotted wandering about the international airport helplessly with their bags in a video that our reporters saw.

For a number of foreign carriers, including Air France/KLM, Qatar, Ethiopian Airlines, Delta Airlines, Virgin Atlantic, and Turkish Air, NAHCO provides check-in, boarding, and ramp services.

A passenger who was impacted by the situation, Alex Nuba, told The Punch that NAHCO workers left the international airport early on Monday and announced they were on strike and would not handle any passengers.

Even the Qatar flight I’m traveling with this morning landed and has returned to Doha as there’s no one to handle them,” he said.

He said passengers are frustrated as they have been kept outside to avoid a crisis and no information, announcements, or emails were sent to passengers.
