Bolanle Raheem: Lagos lawyer’s murder suspect enters a not-guilty plea

Drambi Vandi, a suspended assistant superintendent of police, has entered a not-guilty plea in connection with the death of Bolanle Raheem, a lawyer from Lagos.
According to Thisweekng, Vandi was arraigned by the Lagos State Government on Monday before the Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) annex of the state high court.

The defendant was charged by the state government with one count of murder according to Section 223 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015 in this case.

The arraignment, which was supposed to start at 9 am, was delayed until Vandi’s attorney, Adetokunbo Odutola, showed up at around 11 am.

Vandi entered a not guilty plea to the murder accusation following the reading of the charge sheet.

Remember that on December 25 at the Ajah axis of Lagos, Raheem was allegedly shot and killed by Vandi.

The shooting event happened while the deceased was driving home from a Christmas outing with her family. The Christmas Day murder drew harsh criticism from the political elite as well as people in many different parts of the country.

Later, Vandi’s suspension was suggested by Usman Baba, the IGP of the police. On December 29, the Police Service Commission (PSC) also authorized the suspension.

On December 30, the Lagos state government filed a one-count charge of unlawful killing against Vandi.

Subsequently, the suspended police officer was remanded at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre.
