Exclusively reported by Page Six, Madonna is aiming to invite the newly single Britney Spears to share the stage with her during the upcoming “Celebration” tour, according to sources.
These iconic pop figures have maintained a longstanding friendship and are even represented by the same agent. Their connection goes back to their joint performance of “Vogue” at Spears’ ill-fated wedding to her now-estranged spouse, Sam Asghari, in June 2022.
Madonna, who recently celebrated her 65th birthday in Lisbon, Portugal, along with her six children, is now resuming tour rehearsals following a hospitalization earlier in the summer that led to her being treated in a New York City intensive care unit. Despite having to reschedule her concerts, she is already mapping out plans for the following year. It’s been disclosed that she intends for Spears, who is 41 years old, to make an appearance at one of her five Los Angeles shows scheduled for March.
The focal point of Madonna’s desire to collaborate with Spears lies in commemorating the 20th anniversary of their hit partnership on “Me Against the Music,” which was released in October 2003.
A source states, “Madonna initially aimed for Britney to join her on this year’s tour. Although the schedule shifted due to her illness, her wish for Britney to be part of the Kia Forum performance remains.”
Their well-known MTV Video Music Awards performance in August 2003, during which Madonna shared a notable kiss with both Spears and Christina Aguilera, remains in memory. Spears, the Princess of Pop, last shared the stage with Madonna during the latter’s successful Sticky & Sweet Tour in November 2008, a year following her divorce from Kevin Federline.
Meanwhile, Spears, who effectively terminated her 13-year conservatorship in November 2021, has not made a public performance since October 2018. Nevertheless, it was reported by Page Six last week that she is working on a new album amidst her recent divorce from Sam Asghari, aged 29.
An insider close to Madonna affirms that the “Vogue” vocalist is now in robust health after her medical ordeal. Plans are being made for her entire crew to travel to London next month in preparation for the launch of her greatest-hits tour at the O2 Arena on October 14. The rehearsals will commence in Brixton during the last week of September, and the crew will also have an opportunity for a full dress rehearsal at the O2 on October 13. Notably, some dance routines have been adjusted to be less physically demanding for Madonna, as the emphasis is on her leading role rather than keeping up with the backup dancers.
The source shares, “The goal is to put on an incredible show, but the team’s primary concern is ensuring Madonna’s well-being and her ability to complete the tour without any hitches.”
Efforts have been made to contact representatives for both Madonna and Britney Spears for their input.
In the aftermath of her extensive hospital stay due to a “serious bacterial infection,” the Queen of Pop has openly discussed her recovery. In an Instagram post commemorating her milestone birthday on August 16, Madonna expressed her gratitude for being alive and for the opportunity to don her dancing shoes once again.
